FAQ
Which auction houses sell cars in Brisbane?
Pickles and Manheim are the highest-volume vehicle auctioneers in QLD, with Brisbane facilities running weekly sales. Grays and Lloyds list Queensland vehicles online continuously. Slattery handles commercial and prestige vehicle events from Brisbane.
Are 4WDs and utes common at Brisbane vehicle auctions?
Yes. Queensland’s fleet disposals and ex-government sales regularly feature 4WDs, dual-cabs, and utes. Government and mining fleet vehicles are a Brisbane auction staple.
Can interstate buyers participate?
Most major platforms offer full online bidding. Factor in Brisbane-to-your-state transport costs which may run from typically $300–$600 for a car, more for larger vehicles.
Trends & Insights
The Queensland salvage market is entering a high volume period this week. Pickles has launched its Queensland Salvage Vehicles Auction with bidding open across multiple locations, featuring Mercedes Benz, BMW, Toyota and Nissan lots (Pickles Auctions, Jul 9). IAA Australia is also running a QLD, NSW, ACT and NT Salvage Sale on July 10, with a large volume of vehicles listed for the Queensland branch (IAA Australia, Jul 9). For buyers tracking insurer write offs and repairable write offs, this week offers two distinct platforms to compare.
Government and fleet supply is expanding. Manheim has scheduled Brisbane QFleet and government vehicle auctions for mid July, with 35 QFleet lots and over 190 government, fleet and corporate vehicles starting around July 14 (Manheim Australia, Jul 8). Separately, Hinchinbrook Shire Council has announced an unreserved sale of impounded abandoned vehicles via Pickles, opening July 27 following recent council removals (Hinchinbrook Shire Council, Jul 8). This signals that local government stock, often overlooked, is entering the online bidding channel in greater volume.
The broader Queensland market is showing a clear structural shift. MTA Queensland reports used car sales down 6% year to date, while repossessions have surged 54% (MTA Queensland, Jul 9). The standout trend is plug in hybrid secondhand sales, which have jumped 470% even as overall volumes contract. This divergence suggests buyers are rotating hard toward fuel efficient stock, while traditional internal combustion engine units face softer demand and higher supply from repossession channels.
Buyers should watch for further council and government listings entering the pipeline, as the combination of rising repossessions and softening retail sales could widen margins for those bidding on salvage and fleet stock this week.

Rod’s Tips
Queensland government fleet sales are a strong source of well-maintained 4WDs and utes. QLD Government and fleet disposals through Pickles and Manheim are regularly serviced and documented.
PPSR check every vehicle. Queensland’s used car market includes many ex-mining and farm vehicles which are common to have encumbrances. PPSR check is only $2.
Register early for online sales. Manheim and Pickles both require pre-registration and a deposit hold before the auction opens.

QLD – Ex Mining Light Vehicles, Trailers, Gensets, Welders and Auxiliary Equipment
More detail
This auction draws from mining fleet surplus, so the gear has been maintained to site standards. The vehicle list includes several LandCruiser 200 Series wagons and 79 Series traybacks, plus Isuzu NNR and NLR cab-chassis models. Trailers range from light-duty box trailers to heavy plant floats.
The generator and welder lots are worth a close look. You will find Lincoln and Miller welder/generator combos, plus Cummins and Onan diesel gensets in various kVA ratings. Many units appear to come with service logs and ancillary gear like leads and plugs.
Buyers should factor in that these are ex-mining units. Check service histories where available, and expect typical site wear like stone chips, dust ingress, and aftermarket modifications such as bull bars, UHF radios, and auxiliary lighting. Inspection is recommended before bidding.
Grays Online
Grays Online lists Queensland vehicle lots continuously — passenger cars, SUVs, fleet disposals, and utes with Brisbane and regional pickup options.

2017 Toyota Hilux RWD Automatic Ute
More detail
This is a straight-up late-model ute from the country, not a city fleet hack. The Hilux is a rear-wheel drive automatic, so it’s lighter on fuel than the 4×4 version and better suited to sealed roads. It’s listed as an individual lot in Grays’ ongoing passenger vehicle rotation, which means you get a clean title and no dealer middleman.
Check the service history if it’s posted, but these 2.7-litre petrol engines are tough and cheap to fix. The tray is standard steel, so expect surface scratches from loading. No close date is set yet, so you can watch the price without pressure. Bid what you’d pay for a used car yard special, not a new one.
-

2017 Toyota Hilux FWD Automatic Ute
More detail
This Hilux is a solid workhorse for anyone needing a reliable light commercial vehicle. The FWD automatic setup makes it easy to drive around town or on the highway, and the 2017 model year means it’s modern enough for decent safety and comfort features.
Buyers should check the condition report carefully, as Grays online auctions often sell vehicles as-is with no warranty. Given it’s a single lot, there’s no bulk discount, but the starting bid could be well below dealer pricing. If you’re after a tough ute without paying retail, this one’s worth a look.
-

2009 Hyundai 130 Manual
More detail
This is a straightforward buy for anyone after a budget-friendly manual hatch. The 2009 i30 is a solid, no-frills runabout, and Grays is offering it as a single lot rather than bundling it with other stock. That means you can bid on just this car without needing to take on anything else.
The auction is part of Grays’ ongoing vehicle sale, so expect a rotating selection of late-model sedans, 4x4s, and work utes alongside this Hyundai. Check the listing for the current odometer reading and service history. If the body and engine are clean, this could be a cheap way into a reliable daily driver.

Unreserved – Qantas Access Equipment, Vehicles & Ground Support Sale
More detail
Fourteen lots of airport-grade access equipment are being cleared from Qantas operations. The standout is a 2000 JLG E300AJP articulating electric boom lift, ideal for hangar and terminal maintenance work. Supporting it are three JLG scissor lifts from the same era: a 2030ES, a 1932E3, and a 1932E2.
All units are electric, which means lower noise and zero emissions on site. These are ex-commercial fleet machines, so expect regular service history rather than pristine showroom condition. Buyers should factor in transport from Brisbane Airport and any necessary compliance checks for their own worksites. The unreserved format means everything goes to the highest bidder, no floor price holding things back.
