FAQ
Where do most Australian truck auctions come from?
The bulk come from fleet disposals by transport companies, logistics operators, and government bodies cycling out aging vehicles. Pickles and Manheim handle the largest volumes.
What should I check before bidding on a truck?
Engine hours, service history, ADR compliance, and registration status. For prime movers and heavy vehicles, a pre-purchase mechanical inspection is strongly recommended. Most auction houses will facilitate access for inspections prior to the sale.
Are trucks sold with roadworthy certificates?
Not as a rule. Most commercial vehicles are sold as-is. Budget for a roadworthy inspection and any required repairs before putting a purchase back into service.
What are the buyer’s premium rates for trucks?
Typically 10–18% plus GST. Some houses have a capped premium on high-value lots and you must check the specific terms for each sale.
Can I finance a truck bought at auction?
Trends & Insights
The secondary market is absorbing a steady flow of fleet disposals this week, with multiple auction calendars packed through mid July. Slattery Auctions is closing its Brisbane Truck, Machinery & General sale on July 14, featuring over 80 lots including trucks and trailers, while its Perth Truck, Trailer & Machinery Auction runs 115+ listings through July 15 (Slattery Auctions, Jul 11). Manheim has scheduled its National Transport Heavy Trucks Online Auction for July 17 to 21, held at Altona North in Melbourne, part of the regular national transport series (Manheim Australia, Jul 12). Additional sales from Pickles and Auctionexchange are also live across Queensland, Western Australia and other states, keeping online bidding active through late July (Various auction sites, Jul 12).
New truck sales data released on July 6 adds a significant demand side signal. The Australian truck market recorded 4,172 units sold in June, a 14.6% decline year on year compared to 4,888 units in June 2025. Year to date volume sits at 19,526 units, down 13.5% from the prior year, with Isuzu still leading but its market share easing (Big Rigs, Jul 6). A softening new truck market historically tightens supply of younger trade ins and can push more buyers toward auction sourced equipment, particularly for fleets looking to manage capital outlay.
Buyers should watch the Manheim July 17 opening for heavy truck listings and monitor final bidding in the Slattery Brisbane and Perth sales this week for price discovery signals.

Rod’s Tips
Run a PPSR check on every truck you’re serious about. Commercial vehicles can carry significant encumbrances. A $2 PPSR check is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy.
End-of-lease fleet disposals are where consistency is. Transport companies sell on a schedule and condition varies less than private sales and most have some form of service documentation.
Factor in transport and compliance costs before bidding. A truck that needs a roadworthy, new tyres etc., and freight from Brisbane to Adelaide is a different proposition than its hammer price suggests.
Heavy vehicle auctions at Manheim and Pickles run to a timetable. Major fleet clearances are announced 2–3 weeks ahead. You should get in an get your vehcile research doen as early as possible.

Sale #2044 – Trucks, Transport & More
More detail
This is an unreserved sale, so everything must go. The lot list leans heavily on work-ready utes and trucks, including a 2008 Isuzu NPS 300 tray truck and a 2012 Toyota Hiace van. If you need a solid fleet vehicle or a site runabout, there is decent variety here.
Buyers should inspect before bidding. The auction house runs regular sales, so they move stock quickly. Check the photos for each vehicle’s condition, as some show typical work-site wear. Registration status varies per lot, so factor that into your budget. Bidding closes 29 July 2026.
-

Sale #4100 – Salvage Trucks & Light Vehicles.
More detail
This is a proper clearance of damaged and end-of-life commercial gear. The Isuzu NPR with the tray body is a common site truck, ideal for a panel beater or parts recycler. The Fuso Canter is a workhorse that often gets written off for minor panel damage. The HiAce is a solid candidate for a van conversion or courier rebuild if the structural bits are straight.
Beyond the trucks, expect a mix of passenger cars and 4x4s, plus whatever industrial equipment sbauction has collected. The unreserved format means no reserve price holding things back. First in with the highest bid takes it. Check the photos carefully for damage reports and don’t assume anything is driveable. The sale closes 1 July, so get your inspection done early.

Trucks, Buildings & Machinery Auction
More detail
This sale covers both sites, so buyers need to check which yard each lot is parked at before bidding. The DAF vacuum truck is the headline item, built for heavy industrial waste work. The three Hino tippers offer different configurations: the 6×4 FS 700 for bigger loads, plus the lighter 4×2 500 series and the Isuzu NPR 300 for urban runs.
There are also buildings included in the catalogue, which suggests demountables or sheds from a worksite closure. With only 12 lots total, the auction is tight and focused. Bid on the right truck and you could pick up a working unit without the usual dealer overhead. Check the photos for rust and tyre condition, especially on the older DAF.

Expressions Of Interest – 2022 Tristar Road Train Triaxle Side Door Tipper Quad Sets – 2 Full Sets
More detail
These are near-new Tristar quad sets, built in 2022 and configured as road train triaxle side door tippers. That means each set gives you four trailers capable of hauling serious payloads, with side-door access for quicker unloading. For operators moving bulk materials like aggregate, ore, or grain across remote routes, this is the sort of gear that saves downtime.
Both sets are identical in spec, so you can bid on one or both. Being direct from a fleet, they’re likely maintained to a high standard for continuous road train work. The auction is running as an expressions of interest campaign, so the close date is yet to be confirmed. Check the listing for updates on timing and inspection details if you want to view them in Darwin’s industrial area.

2023 Isuzu NQR 87-190 Tabletop Truck Online Auction
More detail
This is a single-lot auction for a 2023 Isuzu NQR 87-190 fitted with a tabletop body. It’s a current-model truck with very low kilometres, so you’re effectively buying a nearly new vehicle at a used price. The NQR platform is a proven performer in Australia, known for its 7.5-tonne GVM and the reliable 190hp diesel engine.
The tabletop body is a practical choice for carrying building materials, pallets, or general freight. With the auction closing in late May 2026, there’s time to inspect and arrange finance. Given the current supply constraints on new trucks, this could be a smart buy for anyone needing a solid work truck without the dealer premium.
Buyers should factor in the usual online auction fees and arrange their own transport. The truck is likely available for inspection prior to the close, so get in touch with liquidassets to confirm viewing details.

Vawdrey, B Double, Drop Deck, Semi Trailers
More detail
MGS is putting up a solid selection of trailers from its Adelaide yard. The headline items are Vawdrey B-double combinations and drop deck units, built for serious freight work. Semi-trailers round out the transport side, so if you need to move heavy loads on a budget, this is worth a look.
The auction house has been running regular commercial, agricultural, mining, and machinery sales here since 1980. That history means they know how to move gear, and the lots are often well-maintained ex-fleet or deceased estate stock. No close date is set yet, so keep an eye on the listing for the deadline. For buyers in SA, this is a chance to pick up transport equipment without travelling far.

Scania Prime Mover, Containers, Plant & Equipment
More detail
The Scania R620 is a serious piece of kit for anyone running heavy haulage. It’s a 6×4 configuration with a V8, so it’s built for grunt work. Check the service history and hours if that’s your target lot.
The variable message sign trailer is a niche item for traffic management or civil contractors. The Hawk electric golf cart is more of a lifestyle or site runabout. The 20-foot shipping container adds practical storage potential, whether for tools or overflow gear on a worksite.
Lots are spread across various NSW locations, so factor in pickup logistics before bidding. With 26 lots total, the mix leans toward transport and industrial buyers. Get in early to inspect what you can.

Prime Movers, Skel Trailers And More
More detail
This auction focuses on heavy-haul gear, with eight lots of prime movers and skeleton trailers. The 2018 Scania G480 is a standout for long-haul work, while the 2019 Mack Trident offers a newer option with strong resale value. The 2017 Scania G440 and Iveco Stralis round out the truck selection, giving buyers a range of ages and mileage.
Check the lot list for trailer specifics, as skel units often pair with these prime movers for immediate fleet use. Truganina is a logistics hub west of Melbourne, so collection should be straightforward for local operators. No close date has been set yet, so monitor the listing for updates.
-

Surplus Truck & Trailer Auction – Bibra Lake
More detail
This is a tight, seven-lot auction focused on heavy haulage gear. The standout is the 2017 DAF XF105, a relatively modern prime mover that should still have plenty of life left for local or regional work. The 2005 Scania R500 is a proven workhorse, and the 2013 DAF CF85 sits in the middle as a solid option for operators needing a second unit.
The two trailers add flexibility: a dog trailer for general freight and a skeletal trailer for container work. With no close date confirmed yet, keep an eye on the listing for when bidding opens. If you need a truck for a start-up fleet or to replace an ageing unit, this is worth a look before the bidding starts.
