FAQ
Where do most Australian truck auctions come from?
The bulk come from fleet disposals by transport companies, logistics operators, and government bodies cycling out aging vehicles. Pickles and Manheim handle the largest volumes.
What should I check before bidding on a truck?
Engine hours, service history, ADR compliance, and registration status. For prime movers and heavy vehicles, a pre-purchase mechanical inspection is strongly recommended. Most auction houses will facilitate access for inspections prior to the sale.
Are trucks sold with roadworthy certificates?
Not as a rule. Most commercial vehicles are sold as-is. Budget for a roadworthy inspection and any required repairs before putting a purchase back into service.
What are the buyer’s premium rates for trucks?
Typically 10–18% plus GST. Some houses have a capped premium on high-value lots and you must check the specific terms for each sale.
Can I finance a truck bought at auction?
Trends & Insights
The Australian truck market’s monthly sales decline has steepened sharply, marking the biggest year on year drop so far in 2026 (trucksales.com.au, May 23). This contrasts with the steadier Q1 volume of 9,132 new deliveries, signalling a clear shift in buyer sentiment. Against this backdrop, auction activity remains robust as vendors look to clear stock and buyers hunt for value in the secondary market.
Euro Auctions is gearing up for its Australia National Live Online auction on May 28-29 2026, featuring hundreds of truck lots across NSW, QLD and SA, with over 600 lots in Brisbane alone (Euro Auctions, May 25). Meanwhile, Ritchie Bros. is promoting a strong lineup of trucks selling unreserved in recent National Unreserved auctions, with a similar end of financial year event planned for June 24-25 (Ritchie Bros., May 20). This concentrated auction calendar suggests sellers are accelerating disposal timelines ahead of the financial year close.
Recent transaction data confirms active bidding in prime movers. SRV Road Freight consigned trucks and trailers to a National Unreserved auction, with a 2010 Kenworth W900L achieving $44,908 and a 2021 Kenworth T680 reaching $39,700 (Instagram / AuctionTime, May 20). Vocational truck results from a May 21 event also show price realisations for medium and heavy duty lots are available online (YouTube / AuctionTime, May 22). These figures provide a critical benchmark for buyers assessing reserve prices in the current climate.
Watch for the Euro Auctions national event this week as a key test of whether softening new truck demand is pulling auction hammer prices lower across the board.

Rod’s Tips
Run a PPSR check on every truck you’re serious about. Commercial vehicles can carry significant encumbrances. A $2 PPSR check is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy.
End-of-lease fleet disposals are where consistency is. Transport companies sell on a schedule and condition varies less than private sales and most have some form of service documentation.
Factor in transport and compliance costs before bidding. A truck that needs a roadworthy, new tyres etc., and freight from Brisbane to Adelaide is a different proposition than its hammer price suggests.
Heavy vehicle auctions at Manheim and Pickles run to a timetable. Major fleet clearances are announced 2–3 weeks ahead. You should get in an get your vehcile research doen as early as possible.
