FAQ
Where do most Australian truck auctions come from?
The bulk come from fleet disposals by transport companies, logistics operators, and government bodies cycling out aging vehicles. Pickles and Manheim handle the largest volumes.
What should I check before bidding on a truck?
Engine hours, service history, ADR compliance, and registration status. For prime movers and heavy vehicles, a pre-purchase mechanical inspection is strongly recommended. Most auction houses will facilitate access for inspections prior to the sale.
Are trucks sold with roadworthy certificates?
Not as a rule. Most commercial vehicles are sold as-is. Budget for a roadworthy inspection and any required repairs before putting a purchase back into service.
What are the buyer’s premium rates for trucks?
Typically 10–18% plus GST. Some houses have a capped premium on high-value lots and you must check the specific terms for each sale.
Can I finance a truck bought at auction?
Trends & Insights
This week’s national heavy vehicle auction calendar is stacked, with Manheim opening its National Transport Heavy Trucks Online Auction on August 14. The sale features a 2013 Kenworth K200 Prime Mover with a 26,500kg GVM, alongside other heavy units, and runs until August 19. Notably, the same platform is hosting a Corporate Fleet & Finance BidNow Auction, spotlighting a 2015 Western Star 4864FXB with a 90,500kg GCM, closing August 18. That dual-track approach gives buyers a clear split between owner-operator stock and institutional fleet disposals, and the Western Star is a strong indicator of what corporate sellers are releasing right now (Manheim Australia, Aug 14).
On the trailer side, Manheim’s National Transport Trailers Auction also opened August 14, headlined by a 2020 Cartwright Group ST3 Ambient Pantech with a 38,000kg ATM. Late-model pantechs of this spec are a reliable gauge of logistics sector turnover, and this one sits in the sweet spot for operators upgrading rather than replacing. With the heavy truck and trailer sales closing in lockstep on August 19, it is worth mapping your bidding strategy across both catalogues now to consolidate freight assets in a single week (Manheim Australia, Aug 14).
Pickles is running multiple civil construction liquidation sales with ex-fleet tipper trucks, trailers and utilities ending August 17-18. These are direct from the construction sector, so expect wear consistent with site work, but also motivated sellers clearing assets quickly. Meanwhile, Ritchie Bros has its National Unreserved Auction locked in for August 19-20, with promotional posts highlighting fresh civil and construction packages. That event is the one to watch for unreserved pricing, especially if you missed the early Manheim windows (Pickles Auctions, Aug 16; Ritchie Bros APAC, Aug 16).
Buyers should watch the closing hours of the Manheim corporate fleet sale on August 18 for late bidding pressure on prime movers, then pivot to the Ritchie Bros unreserved event on August 19 for potential value on civil packages.

Rod’s Tips
Run a PPSR check on every truck you’re serious about. Commercial vehicles can carry significant encumbrances. A $2 PPSR check is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy.
End-of-lease fleet disposals are where consistency is. Transport companies sell on a schedule and condition varies less than private sales and most have some form of service documentation.
Factor in transport and compliance costs before bidding. A truck that needs a roadworthy, new tyres etc., and freight from Brisbane to Adelaide is a different proposition than its hammer price suggests.
Heavy vehicle auctions at Manheim and Pickles run to a timetable. Major fleet clearances are announced 2–3 weeks ahead. You should get in an get your vehcile research doen as early as possible.

Caterpillar 789C Mining Trucks & XCMG GR2605 Graders Online Offsite Auction
More detail
These are no weekend toys. The Caterpillar 789C trucks are purpose-built for hauling massive loads on mine sites, and the XCMG GR2605 graders are serious road-building kit. Ross’s runs regular sales from Perth covering everything from police forfeitures to business closures, so this is a straight-up disposal from operational WA sites.
Buyers will need to arrange their own transport from Pannawonica and Karratha. Given the weight and size of this gear, factor in heavy haulage quotes before bidding. The auction closes on 17 August 2026, so there is time to inspect or organise logistics. If you run a civil crew or a mine-site maintenance operation, this is a direct line to production-ready plant without the Perth showroom markup.
-

Emergency Fire Tender Trucks & Toyota Landcruiser Ambulances Online Welshpool Auction
More detail
Ross runs a steady program of online, live, and in-house auctions out of Perth, and this one pulls together ex-emergency fleet stock that’s worth a close look. The fire tenders are the headline act, built for rapid response with water tanks, pumps, and hose reels intact, while the Landcruiser ambulances offer solid, high-roof platforms that suit conversion or continued service use.
Buyers should check the condition reports and start planning transport, as these are heavy units and will need proper collection arrangements from Welshpool. The lot list covers both running gear and whole vehicles, so there’s room for a serious operator or a private buyer after a capable 4WD base. Bidding closes 12 August, so get in early and have your paperwork ready for the transfer.
-
1993 Mitsubishi Fire Truck & Toyota 7PB25 Electric Forklift – Chittering
More detail
The Mitsubishi is the headliner here, a proper ex-service unit that’s been set up for firefighting or water carting duties. For rural buyers or anyone needing a bulk water hauler, this is a solid workhorse with genuine capability, not a show pony. Check the service history and pump condition before bidding, but these units are built to take a beating.
The Toyota 7PB25 electric forklift is the practical pick for warehouses or yards needing a reliable lifter without the diesel fumes. The 3-stage container mast gives you extra reach for stacking or loading, and electric running gear keeps operating costs down. With only two lots, this is a tight, focused auction, so get your inspection done early and be ready to move when the timer starts.
-

Light Vehicles, Trucks, Earthmoving Equipment, Mobile Generators, Pumps & Workshop Equipment Traditional Kalgoorlie Auction
More detail
This auction packs a solid mix for miners, contractors, and tradies. The vehicle lineup includes several Toyota HiLux and LandCruiser utes, a 2018 Isuzu NNR 45-150 tray truck, and a 2015 Ford Transit Custom van. On the earthmoving side, look for a Caterpillar 320D excavator, a Komatsu WA320 wheel loader, and a 2016 Hitachi ZX135US-5 excavator.
Mobile generators from Cummins and Himoinsa are listed, along with a range of submersible and centrifugal pumps. The workshop gear covers welders, compressors, and tooling. All items are located at the Great Eastern Highway showroom. Buyers should inspect in person before bidding. Auction close date is yet to be confirmed, so check the listing for updates.
-

Sale #2045 – Trucks & Transport
More detail
This unreserved sale is a proper mixed bag for anyone after working vehicles or parts and accessories. The truck side looks strong, with a mix of Japanese and European brands typical of fleet and owner-operator turn-over. Expect everything from daily-driver condition to project material, so inspect the photos and read the condition reports carefully.
Beyond the trucks, there’s the usual supporting cast: toolboxes, tie-downs, tow bars, and electrical gear that often slips through cheap when bundled. If you’re chasing a work ute or a second truck for a small fleet, this is the sort of auction where you can pick something up without the dealership song and dance. The sale closes on 17 September, and it’s all unreserved, so the market sets the price. Get your inspections done early and have your transport sorted before bidding.
-

Sale #4100 – Salvage Trucks & Light Vehicles.
More detail
This is a proper clearance of damaged and end-of-life commercial gear. The Isuzu NPR with the tray body is a common site truck, ideal for a panel beater or parts recycler. The Fuso Canter is a workhorse that often gets written off for minor panel damage. The HiAce is a solid candidate for a van conversion or courier rebuild if the structural bits are straight.
Beyond the trucks, expect a mix of passenger cars and 4x4s, plus whatever industrial equipment sbauction has collected. The unreserved format means no reserve price holding things back. First in with the highest bid takes it. Check the photos carefully for damage reports and don’t assume anything is driveable. The sale closes 1 July, so get your inspection done early.
-

Sale #2044 – Trucks, Transport & More
More detail
This is an unreserved sale, so everything must go. The lot list leans heavily on work-ready utes and trucks, including a 2008 Isuzu NPS 300 tray truck and a 2012 Toyota Hiace van. If you need a solid fleet vehicle or a site runabout, there is decent variety here.
Buyers should inspect before bidding. The auction house runs regular sales, so they move stock quickly. Check the photos for each vehicle’s condition, as some show typical work-site wear. Registration status varies per lot, so factor that into your budget. Bidding closes 29 July 2026.
-

Mining & Commercial Light Vehicles, Trucks, Plant & Machinery Traditional Karratha Auction
More detail
Ross’s traditional Karratha auction pulls together gear that actually works for the region, not just the usual clearance filler. The vehicle lineup leans towards dual-cab utes and light commercials, the kind of thing tradies and mine-site contractors run daily. On the truck side, look for tautliners, tipper bodies, and prime movers that have done real kilometres, so check service history before you bid.
Plant equipment is where the value often sits. There’s typically a range of excavators, loaders, and compaction gear, with brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi popping up when stock is strong. If you’re chasing attachments or spare parts, those lots tend to fly under the radar, so it pays to scroll through the full catalogue.
Ross runs these sales regularly from Perth, and the Karratha offering is a mix of ex-fleet, business closure, and police forfeited items. That means condition varies, so inspection is worth your time. The auction is timed to suit local buyers, but online bidding is open if you’re not in the area. Keep an eye on the close date as it firms up, and register early if you plan to bid.

For transport, there are Isuzu FTR and FVY tippers, a Hino 700, and several box trailers and flatbed trailers.
Utes in the mix include Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger models, handy as site runners. Attachments such as buckets, grabs, and rippers are also on offer. With the close date set for 18 August 2026, there is time to inspect and plan. Check the Pickles site for the full lot list and viewing details.

(SOLD) 2023 Isuzu NQR 87-190 Tabletop Truck Online Auction
More detail
This is a single-lot auction for a 2023 Isuzu NQR 87-190 fitted with a tabletop body. It’s a current-model truck with very low kilometres, so you’re effectively buying a nearly new vehicle at a used price. The NQR platform is a proven performer in Australia, known for its 7.5-tonne GVM and the reliable 190hp diesel engine.
The tabletop body is a practical choice for carrying building materials, pallets, or general freight. With the auction closing in late May 2026, there’s time to inspect and arrange finance. Given the current supply constraints on new trucks, this could be a smart buy for anyone needing a solid work truck without the dealer premium.
Buyers should factor in the usual online auction fees and arrange their own transport. The truck is likely available for inspection prior to the close, so get in touch with liquidassets to confirm viewing details.

Ex Mining – Light Vehicles, Trailers, Trucks & auxiliary equipment
More detail
This is a straight-from-site clearance, so the gear has been worked hard but maintained to mining specs. The light vehicle list includes multiple LandCruiser 200 Series and 70 Series wagons, plus a few dual-cab utes. On the truck side, look for Isuzu FTR and FV series tray trucks, along with a Kenworth T909 prime mover if you need serious hauling capacity.
Trailer selection covers flatbed and drop-deck units, including a 40-tonne tri-axle low loader. Auxiliary equipment rounds out the catalogue with generators, light towers, and fuel tanks. All items are located in Brisbane, so inspection is straightforward before the close date on 20 August 2026. Buyers should factor in the ex-mining condition and plan for any compliance work needed if putting them back on public roads.
-

Tristar Side Tipper Brisbane
More detail
These are proper workhorses for anyone moving bulk materials. The 2012 Tristar ST3 Doorless Tri-Axle Side Tipper and the 2011 model are both listed, giving buyers a choice of year and condition. Doorless tippers are a solid pick if you’re loading from overhead or need quick, clean discharge without the hassle of rear gates.
Tri-axle setup means decent payload capacity and stability on the highway. Brisbane-based buyers can inspect in Pinkenba before bidding, which is worth doing given the age of these units. Check the listings for service history and any wear on the tipper rams or suspension.
If you need one truck, or two to keep a fleet moving, this is a straightforward chance to grab a matched pair of tippers from a known brand. Watch for the close date to be confirmed, and factor in any compliance work for Queensland rego.

Isuzu Light Truck Auction – Fleet Maintained
More detail
This is a straight-up fleet disposal, so the usual caveats apply: these are working trucks, not show ponies. The 2014 FRR 500 X-Long 4×2 curtainsider is the standout for anyone hauling palletised freight, offering serious cube space without needing a heavy vehicle licence. The 2015 FRR 500 Long is a solid alternative if you want the same capability in a slightly shorter footprint.
The two NNR 45 150 pantechs, a 2015 and a 2016, are the urban delivery workhorses here. Both are 4×2 with alloy pantech bodies, ideal for metro runs where manoeuvrability and payload matter more than top speed. Fleet-maintained history suggests regular servicing, but you’re buying sight-unseen, so factor in a pre-bid inspection if you can get to Truganina before the close date.
With only seven lots listed, this is a tight catalogue, not a mega-sale. The close date is still TBC, so check the listing for the final countdown. If you need a reliable light truck for a courier run or local distribution, this is worth a serious look.

Vawdrey, B Double, Drop Deck, Semi Trailers
More detail
MGS is putting up a solid selection of trailers from its Adelaide yard. The headline items are Vawdrey B-double combinations and drop deck units, built for serious freight work. Semi-trailers round out the transport side, so if you need to move heavy loads on a budget, this is worth a look.
The auction house has been running regular commercial, agricultural, mining, and machinery sales here since 1980. That history means they know how to move gear, and the lots are often well-maintained ex-fleet or deceased estate stock. No close date is set yet, so keep an eye on the listing for the deadline. For buyers in SA, this is a chance to pick up transport equipment without travelling far.
