Manheim Australia’s heavy vehicle calendar is unusually crowded this week, with three separate fleet events running in parallel. The headline is a Major Transport Fleet Rotation carrying eight 2022/23 DAF CF530 FTT prime movers alongside four 2017 International Prostars and a 2013 Iveco ML160E28 Eurocargo tray, with the BidNow window open from Fri 9 Oct 2pm to Tue 13 Oct 2pm (Manheim Australia LinkedIn, Oct 5).

Construction and resources buyers get their own drawcard via the BORAL Major Ex National Fleet Sale, also opening Fri 9 Oct at 2pm AEDT and closing Wed 14 Oct at 6pm AEDT. More than 50 lots are on offer, spanning Caterpillar 980H and 966H wheel loaders, Azmeb road train trailers, Iveco Stralis 460 EEV prime movers and Mack Metroliner cab chassis (Manheim Australia LinkedIn, Oct 5).

Financier-driven supply is the other thread to note. A liquidation auction of late-model prime movers and Vawdrey trailers, 26 lots in total, opened Tue 6 Oct at 10am AEDT and runs to Mon 12 Oct at 4pm AEDT (Manheim Australia LinkedIn, Oct 5). That sits behind last week’s Mack Tri Drive and side tipper event, which closed Thu 8 Oct at 3pm AEDT after offering two 2022 Mack CLXT 8×6 tri-drives, seven Howard Porter TRI470 side tippers and four DOL200 dollies (Manheim Australia LinkedIn, Oct 5). The prior K&S Freighters national rotation, featuring 2018 Kenworth T610 and 2020 Scania R580 prime movers from yards nationwide, wrapped Tue 29 Sep (Manheim.com.au, Sep 29).

Watch the DAF and BORAL outcomes closely next week, as clearing rates on those lots will set the tone for late-model prime mover pricing into November.

Rod’s Tips

Manheim handles the majority of ex-government fleet in Australia. Commonwealth and state government vehicles are typically one-owner, log-book serviced, and come in volume. This produces predictable quality and competitive but fair pricing.

Corporate fleet sales tend to cluster at end of financial year. June and July see elevated supply as companies cycle their fleets. More volume means more choice — and sometimes softer prices on common models.

Rental car fleet disposals at Manheim are worth watching. Major rental companies sell their fleet on a rolling annual cycle. These vehicles are high-km but well-maintained and priced accordingly below market value.

Arrive early for physical inspections. Manheim facilities see high throughput. Getting there early for the inspection period means more time on each vehicle and less waiting for popular lots.
