FAQ
Which auction houses sell cars in Canberra?
Pickles and Manheim operate ACT vehicle yards, with Pickles in Fyshwick running regular fleet disposal and general vehicle sales. AllBids also lists Canberra vehicle lots, and Grays is available online for ACT buyers continuously.

Yes. Canberra is Australia’s largest source of federal government fleet disposals. ATO, Defence, and other Commonwealth agency vehicles regularly come through Pickles Fyshwick. These are typically well-maintained and properly documented.
Can I inspect vehicles before bidding in Canberra?
Yes (except Pickles). Most offer inspection windows before their sales.
Trends & Insights
Canberra’s ex-government channel is doing the heavy lifting this week. Slattery Auctions has three ex-council Toyotas on the block in its Canberra Car & Commercial Auction closing 1 September, including a 2024 RAV4 GXL Hybrid and a 2023 Kluger GX with verifiable ACT council service histories, all listed at the Fyshwick yard (Auction Finder, Sep 5). Provenance is the pitch here, and buyers are treating documented government maintenance as a premium over comparable private stock.
Bidding on Fyshwick surplus was active as of 3 September, and the spread tells the story: a 2014 Hyundai i20 at $151, a 2008 Audi TT at $150, a 2020 LDV T60 at $3,550, and a 2015 Nissan Patrol leading at $17,750 (Auction Finder, Sep 5). Cheap transport and higher-spec 4x4s are both drawing money, which suggests the buyer pool is not one cohort but two.
Commercial stock keeps its own rhythm. Slattery has scheduled a Canberra & Regional NSW Truck and Machinery Auction for 10 September, a timed online event at the Lithgow Street yard that keeps regional NSW and ACT equipment flowing through the capital (Auction Finder, Sep 5). Nationally, Pickles opens multiple government, fleet and corporate vehicle auctions from 14 September, with ACT-accessible stock spread across the national salerooms (Pickles Auctions, Sep 11).
The local used market is marching to its own beat. AADA data shows the Toyota RAV4 outselling the Ford Ranger in ACT one-to-five-year-old used sales for August, 27 units to 19, bucking the national pattern where Ranger dominates most states (AADA, Sep 8). Watch whether that RAV4 demand carries into the ex-council listings closing this week, and whether Patrol money holds above $17,750.

PPSR check every vehicle. Even government-sourced vehicles should be checked, the $2 PPSR search is the minimum due diligence for any used vehicle.
Be mindful of dealer trade-ins High milage and loaded with a christmas tree of lights on the dash, these turds are often pushed through smaller auction houses or “clearing lanes”.
