The mix mirrors what we have seen all month: late-model prestige written off early sitting alongside older high-kilometre SUVs, both attracting the repair-sector buyers who do the maths on parts value rather than retail appeal.
Slattery Auctions is running its usual Canberra rotation of passenger and commercial lots out of Lithgow Street, with a 2019 Audi A8L and ex-council Toyotas among recent and upcoming offerings as bids close through mid-to-late September into early October (Auction Finder, Sep 26). Ex-council stock remains the quiet workhorse of this market, predictable service history and honest kilometres, though the A8L shows Slattery is still pulling in the occasional executive trade-in.
GovAuctions is carrying more than 300 live ACT government lots as of late September, with vehicles including a 2014 Hyundai i30, 2014 Holden Cruze and 2013 Mazda CX-5 at Fyshwick opening from as little as $100 to $1,011 (GovAuctions, Sep 28). Federal government fleet sales at Pickles Fyshwick are Canberra’s best-kept buying opportunity. Commonwealth vehicles are regularly serviced to government fleet standards and quality is consistently high.
PPSR check every vehicle. Even government-sourced vehicles should be checked, the $2 PPSR search is the minimum due diligence for any used vehicle.
Be mindful of dealer trade-ins High milage and loaded with a christmas tree of lights on the dash, these turds are often pushed through smaller auction houses or “clearing lanes”.

Two lots, both oilers, both worth a look. The 2012 Ford Focus Titanium runs the diesel, which means decent economy in a small hatch that’s cheap to run and easy to park. Titanium trim sits near the top of the Focus range, so expect the better seats, wheels and kit over a base model.
The headline act is the 2016 Range Rover Sport SE diesel. That’s the L494 generation, and the diesel suits it well: plenty of torque for towing, and far kinder at the bowser than the supercharged petrols. SE trim keeps it honest, but it’s still a Range Rover Sport underneath.
Both are listed as reserved, so there’s a floor price to clear. Worth checking the condition reports and service history on the Range Rover in particular before you commit.
