FAQ
Which auction houses sell cars in Sydney?
Pickles Auctions in Belmore and Manheim in Moorebank are the two highest-volume vehicle auctioneers in Sydney, running weekly sales. Lloyds, Grays, and Slattery also regularly list NSW vehicles online. Classic and collector car specialists like Burns & Co. run periodic Sydney events.
Do Sydney vehicle auctions require ID and a deposit to bid?
Most major platforms require a pre-authorised credit card hold or refundable deposit before your bidding account is activated. National ID is also required by major auctioneers. It’s recommended to register well in advance so that everything is processed before auction day.
Can I inspect vehicles before bidding?
In most cases. Pickles no longer offers inspections. In such a case, condition reports and PPSR checks substitute for physical inspection, so bid accordingly. Always check for finance encumbrances before bidding.
What is the buyer’s premium at Sydney car auctions?
Typically 10–18% plus GST depending on the auctioneer and sale type, there may be additional fees depedning on the vehicle type eg EV’s at Pickles incur an extra $100 fee. Check the individual listing for specifics. Always add the premium to your maximum bid to calculate your true total cost.
Trends & Insights
The auction calendar for NSW vehicles remains heavily loaded, with Manheim Sydney’s Clearing Vehicles auction currently featuring 116 lots ending soon, covering passenger, SUV, and commercial stock from its Moorebank facility (Manheim Australia, Jul 10). Alongside this, Pickles is running its National Unreserved Motor Vehicle Sale with NSW locations including Belmore, plus dedicated salvage sales scheduled across NSW and ACT through early July (Pickles Auctions, Jul 1). This consistent flow of government, general, and salvage lots keeps downstream supply steady for dealers working the wholesale pipeline.
Supply dynamics are heavily concentrated in the eastern states. The latest Australia Car Auction Market Snapshot shows Victoria at 30.35% and NSW at 28.07% of total national auction supply, combining for nearly 60% of all vehicle auction volume (Wholesale Console LinkedIn, Jul 5). This reinforces that NSW buyers and sellers operate in the deepest pool of auction inventory in the country, which can pressure clearance rates if too much stock chases limited bidder demand.
On the demand side, NSW recorded the highest new vehicle sales volume in the nation for June 2026 at 42,830 units, with year to date national sales up 1.19% (AADA, Jul 9). Rising new car registrations typically dampen appetite for older used stock, but the recent Manheim prestige auction featuring seized high end vehicles like BMW M4 CS and McLaren models consigned by finance companies shows that niche segments still attract strong interest (news.com.au, Jun 18).
Watch for whether the Manheim Sydney clearing event clears its 116 lots at firm prices, as that will signal if buyers are absorbing volume or waiting for discounts in the week ahead.

Rod’s Tips
Run a PPSR check before bidding on any vehicle. For $2, the Personal Property Securities Register reveals outstanding finance, theft records, and write-off history. A vital step before any used vehicle purchase at auction.
Manheim Moorebank and Pickles Belmore run weekly government fleet sales. These are often the best-value vehicles at auction as they are regularly serviced, well-documented, and usually sold without reserve.
Inspect in person where possible. Condition reports are useful but don’t replace a walk-around. Most auctioneers offer inspection days and you should use them, especially for higher-value lots.
Keep transport costs in mindAt major auctioneers, unless the vehicle has registration, you may not be able to drive the vehicle away. Clarify this in advance and budget accordingly.
Manhiem or Pickles? Which is Better? Over the years, I have bought vehicles from both, personally I think they are both very professional and that the most important thing is to understand the nature of buying at auction and to do your own research and inspection on any vehicle you wish to buy. Like any auction house, there is little chance for negotiation after the sale, but there is always an opportunity beforehand…

2014 Renault Captur Expression Manual Wagon
More detail
This is a single-vehicle listing from Grays Online’s rolling auction format, covering passenger cars, SUVs, utes, and vans. The Captur Expression is the base trim, but the manual transmission is what sets it apart most second-hand examples are autos. It’s a front-wheel drive hatch with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, decent for around-town running.
Check the photos for service history and overall condition. As with any Grays auction, factor in the buyer’s premium and pickup costs from Arndell Park. No reserve is listed, so the final price depends on how many other punters want a cheap manual SUV.
-

2013 Holden Colorado 4X2 LX RG Turbo Diesel Manual Cab Chassis
More detail
This Colorado is a solid workhorse for anyone needing a reliable tradie ute. The 2.8-litre turbo diesel paired with a manual gearbox gives you control on and off the bitumen, while the cab chassis layout means you can fit a custom tray or canopy to suit your job. It’s an LX model, so you get basic comforts like air conditioning and power windows, but nothing too flash.
Check the service history and any body rust, as these RGs can cop a hiding if used hard. The auction is ongoing, so you need to watch the close time closely. If you want a cheap manual ute that still has plenty of life left, this is worth a look.
-

2016 Volkswagen Amarok TDI340 2H Turbo Diesel Manual Dual Cab
More detail
This Amarok is part of Grays’ ongoing vehicle listings, which also include other passenger cars, SUVs, utes, and vans. The TDI340 is the entry-level turbo diesel, but it still offers solid towing capacity and a practical six-speed manual gearbox. With the dual-cab layout, you get four doors and a proper tray out back.
Check the service history and condition report before bidding. The close date is still to be confirmed, so monitor the listing for updates. If you need a reliable ute without paying dealer prices, this one’s worth a look.
-

2020 Volkswagen Touareg 170TDI CR Auto 4MOTION MY21
More detail
The Touareg 170TDI is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel, pushing 170kW and a hefty 500Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic and 4MOTION system give it genuine off-road capability, but the real selling point here is the comfort and tech inside. You get adaptive air suspension, a panoramic sunroof, leather trim, and the Discover Pro navigation system with a large touchscreen.
This model also includes a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a full suite of safety gear like autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. It’s a MY21, so it’s still a relatively new car with plenty of life left. Check the service history and condition report before bidding, as Grays rolling auctions don’t offer the same inspection window as a dealer sale. If the body and mechanicals are clean, this is a strong contender for anyone needing a capable, comfortable family SUV without paying showroom prices.
-

2018 Volvo XC60 T5 MOMENTUM Automatic – 8 Speed Wagon
More detail
This is a single-vehicle listing from Grays, part of their ongoing run of passenger cars and light commercials. The Volvo XC60 T5 Momentum is a well-regarded model, offering a punchy turbo petrol engine and a comfortable, safe cabin. The “Momentum” trim level includes leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a decent infotainment setup.
Buyers should note this is a rolling auction, so the close time will trigger a few minutes after the last bid. Check the vehicle’s description carefully for any notes on condition, service history, or registration status. If you’re after a family wagon with Euro cred, this one’s worth a close look before the bidding wraps.
-

2019 BMW X3 sDrive20i G01 Auto
More detail
This X3 is a one-owner example from the G01 generation, known for its sharp handling and premium cabin. The sDrive20i is rear-wheel drive, making it lighter and more efficient than the all-wheel-drive variants. It comes with a panoramic sunroof, leather trim, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation.
Buyers should factor in the standard Grays buyer’s premium and check the close date, as this is a rolling auction with no fixed end time. The car is located in Lane Cove West for pre-bid inspection. Given the age and low-depreciation curve of the X3, this could be a solid buy if the condition stacks up.
-

BIG BRAND AUTO TOOLS AND WORKSHOP – STANLEY, SIDCROME, DEWALT, KINCROME, NOCO, CAT…
More detail
This auction leans hard on name-brand power tools and hand tools, with 95 lots covering vehicles and industrial gear. The DeWALT x McLaren F1 Team 18V XR Brushless Impact Driver comes with two 5AH batteries and a charger, a collectible for F1 fans and a solid performer for the shed. Also from DeWALT is an 18V XR cordless brushless 10L air compressor, sold skin only, so you’ll need your own battery platform.
The KINCROME and SIDCROME lots are worth a look if you’re after mid-range pro gear. The STANLEY 60pc set shows minor use, meaning it’s still tight but won’t cost like new. NOCO battery chargers and the CURT Class 3 trailer hitch round out the practical buys. If you need trailer towing capacity or a solid air compressor without the retail price, this is a tight selection. Close date is yet to be confirmed, so check the listing before you bid.
-

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 132TSI R-Line Edition 5N Auto 4MOTION MY19.5
More detail
This Tiguan is the R-Line Edition, which means it packs the sporty body kit, larger wheels, and interior trim upgrades over the standard model. The 132TSI engine delivers a punchy 132kW, and with 4MOTION you get proper all-weather grip. It’s a 2019 build so it still has modern tech and safety gear, but it’s now at an age where the depreciation hit is done.
Buyers should check the service history and condition reports closely, as Grays runs this as a rolling auction with no fixed end time. If the lot list is empty, expect the usual passenger vehicle paperwork and keys to be included. This is a one-off listing, so there’s no fleet of similar cars to compare against. Bid accordingly.

Grays Yennora Motor Vehicle Auction
More detail
The Focus Trend is the newest of the bunch, and likely the cheapest entry point for a reliable daily driver. On the diesel side, the ML300 offers a comfortable SUV with the older M-Class build quality, while the Sprinter 311 is a solid workhorse for trades or conversion projects. All three are single-lot entries, so you can bid on each individually without being forced into a package deal. Check the close date and registration status before bidding, as these are ex-fleet or trade-in stock that may need compliance work.
