FAQ
What is a liquidation auction?
When a business closes, goes into administration, or is wound up by a receiver, its assets such as stock, equipment, fitout, and vehicles, are sold through auction to pay creditors. Liquidation sales tend to produce strong lots at motivated pricing, since the goal is clearance rather than value maximisation.
Do liquidation lots come with any warranty?
Rarely. Most liquidation sales are strictly as-is, where-is, with no returns. The onus is on the buyer to inspect before bidding. Read the sale conditions carefully as some receivers take a particularly strict line on this.
Are liquidation stock auctions worth it for resellers?
Yes, but due diligence is essential. Verify that stock is clear of security interests via a PPSR check on goods where applicable, and check that the receiver has clear title to sell. Reputable auction houses handle this before consigning, but it’s worth confirming.
Which houses handle the most liquidation work?
Slattery, Lloyds, MGS, and Grays handle significant corporate and commercial liquidation volumes.
Trends & Insights
Overstock and general consumer liquidation auctions remain the most active segment this week. HiBid Australia is running its Overstock Liquidation Auction W34, with bidding scheduled from July 8 through July 15 on surplus stock and general consumer goods (HiBid Australia, Jul 15). Meanwhile, AllSurplus continues to host regular liquidation and surplus sales across Victoria and nationally, covering equipment, inventory, and commercial assets with active listings this week (AllSurplus, Jul 20). Buyers should monitor these platforms for consistent deal flow in consumer goods and commercial stock.
A key forward indicator for the liquidation market is the Payday Super rollout that took effect on July 1. New superannuation payment rules are expected to pressure cash-strapped sectors like construction and hospitality, potentially increasing the volume of liquidation stock available in coming months (Scale Suite, Jul 15). This regulatory shift could drive a Q3 uptick in insolvency appointments, translating into more auction listings from distressed businesses.
Recent completed sales also confirm ongoing buyer access to distressed assets. Pickles Auctions has ended insolvency general goods sales, demonstrating that discounted commercial and consumer assets from insolvent estates remain available to buyers (Pickles, Jul 18). While no major new high profile closures hit the market this week, the steady drumbeat of online auctions and the looming impact of Payday Super suggest the supply pipeline will only thicken.
Watch for fresh insolvency listings tied to the hospitality and construction sectors as the Payday Super compliance costs begin to bite.

Rod’s Tips
Slattery, MGS (SA) and Lloyds are the specialists for major commercial liquidations. When a significant business closes, these are the houses most likely to be appointed. Their newsletters and upcoming sale announcements are worth tracking.
Visit the preview as liquidation lots are almost never fully described online. A “workshop equipment” lot that photos suggest is minor might include a $20,000 CNC machine buried in the background. The detail is always in the room.
Arrive early to the preview of in-room sales. Online photos underrepresent quantity and condition. The first hour of previewing before it gets crowded is when you find the genuine opportunities.
Factor in removal time and logistics. Liquidation sales often have strict and short collection windows and sometimes just 24–48 hours. Have your transport arranged before you bid, not after you win.

Health Care Clinic Liquidation Online Welshpool Auction
More detail
This is a straight-up business closure sale from a health care clinic, so the gear is professional-grade, not your average home medical kit. Ross’s has handled plenty of forfeited stock and business wind-ups from Perth before, so the condition should reflect commercial use. The lot list includes examination couches, autoclaves for sterilising instruments, and diagnostic tools like blood pressure monitors and otoscopes. There’s also office furniture mixed in, meaning you could kit out a small practice or grab spare parts for an existing setup.
The auction closes on 27 July 2026, and it’s online only, so you inspect before you bid. No reserve games here, just a straight liquidation. If you’re after clinical equipment without the retail markup, this one is worth a look. Ross’s runs a tight ship, so check the photos and condition reports before the timer runs out.

Transport side includes a Kenworth T909 prime mover, multiple Fruehauf and Maxi-CUBE trailers, and a Mack truck for bulk haulage. -

Shorelands Crane Ancillary & Lifting Equipment Insolvency Sale 2
More detail
This is the second instalment of the Shorelands Crane clearance, so expect a focused lineup of lifting hardware rather than mixed plant. The lot list includes wire rope slings in various sizes, rated shackles, turnbuckles, and lifting beams. There are also chain blocks and webbing slings, likely from regular fleet rotation.
Buyers should check the condition notes on each lot, as some gear may show wear from tropical use. Darwin pickup only. The auction closes on 30 July 2026, so there is time to inspect if you are serious about adding rated lifting equipment to your workshop or hire fleet.
