Inside This Week’s Restaurant Equipment Auction Market – 4 Upcoming Sales inc Restaurant Gear, Unused Bakery Equipment & Catering Lots
This week we list 4 restaurant and catering equipment auctions across Australia. Including commercial kitchens, café fit-outs, food service equipment, and hospitality clearances.
FAQ
Where does restaurant auction equipment come from?
Primarily business closures including restaurants, cafés, and catering companies that have wound up. Refurbishment projects, kitchen upgrades, and liquidations of food service distributors also contribute significant stock.
What equipment typically comes up?
Commercial ovens, fryers, grills, dishwashers, refrigeration, coffee machines, display cabinets, POS systems, benching, and racking. Complete kitchen fit-outs sometimes sell as a package; other times individual pieces are lotted separately.
Is secondhand commercial kitchen equipment worth buying?
Usually yes, commercial-grade equipment is built for heavy use and lasts far longer than domestic equivalents. A well-maintained commercial oven or fridge bought at a fraction of new cost is a sound investment for a small food business.
What should I check before bidding?
Test operation if possible during the inspection period. But in most cases it is not possible due tothe need for power or gas etc.
Trends & Insights
Western Australia’s used equipment market is seeing active bidding this week, with Ross’s Auctioneers in Welshpool closing a major catering and restaurant equipment sale on July 7. The online auction features commercial kitchenware including deep fryers, ovens, bain maries, coffee machines, stainless steel benches, and cafe furniture, with inspections open on July 6 and collection scheduled for July 8 through 10 (auctions.com.au, Jul 1). Early bids highlight strong interest in premium fryer brands: a Henny Penny Computron 1000 pressure fryer sits at $1,000 with one bid, while double-stacked HC-900 holding cabinets are drawing bids of $440 and $400 (auctions.com.au, Jul 6). Cobra grills and Blue Seal hot plates are also moving from the $300 mark, suggesting buyers are targeting reliable mid tier brands over speculative bargains.
Nationally, Lloyds Auctions continues to run multiple hospitality, catering and events online auctions, with unreserved sales of restaurant kitchen fit outs, equipment and furniture spanning several states. Their weekly Tuesday hospitality auctions are sustaining strong buyer interest for commercial gear (Lloyds Auctions, Jul 5). This consistent national flow reflects the broader supply side reality: ongoing restaurant closures continue to feed auction inventory. National data shows over 10% of restaurants and cafes have closed in the past year due to rising costs, with recent liquidations adding catering gear to the market without triggering price spikes (ABC News, Jul 2).
For buyers, the current environment offers a rare alignment of steady supply and disciplined bidding. The Welshpool sale’s 15% buyer’s premium is standard, but the lack of speculative price surges means operators can secure Henny Penny and Blue Seal gear at levels that make sense for refurbishment or new fit outs. Watch for the final bidding momentum on July 7 as a key indicator of whether this measured demand holds into the next round of national hospitality auctions.

Rod’s Tips
Grays handles the most consistent volume of hospitality equipment in Australia. Their rolling online sales include single items and complete kitchen packages. Set up a saved search for your equipment categories to catch new lots as they list.
Complete café fit-outs can go for dramatically less than replacement cost. When a café closes, the operator often needs a quick exit. Buying the complete fit-out rather than individual pieces can deliver significant savings if you have a venue to fit it out.
Coffee machine lots need careful assessment. A commercial espresso machine is expensive to service. Check the brand’s service network before bidding — some imported machines have no local support. A cheap machine with no parts availability is an expensive paperweight.
Bring your own measurements. Commercial benching, fridges, and rack systems are site-specific. Know your kitchen dimensions before the auction — equipment that won’t fit is worth nothing to you regardless of price.
Freight costs. Don’t be afraid to look out of state by first checking in on couriers for an estimate. I purchased a commercial espresso machine and even with the freight from ACT to VIC is was a great deal landed at my doorstep. Be sure to get quotes from couriers with lift-gates to load and unload heavy goods.

Hospitality, Catering & Events
More detail
This auction is more than just the usual kitchen fit-out. It mixes practical catering essentials with decorative pieces that would suit an event hire business or a restaurant looking for a distinct style. The Sankheda-style items appear in five separate lots, each with four pieces, so there’s serious quantity for anyone outfitting a venue. The two traditional Indian-style tables with glass tops add further potential for a themed setup.
Buyers should note that several lots are described as “assorted,” which means you’ll want to inspect or request a detailed list before bidding. The vintage double oven is a standout for its age and character, possibly a restoration project or a feature piece. With 12 lots on offer and a mid-July close, there’s time to sort out transport and check condition.

This is a mixed bag for anyone setting up a commercial kitchen or studio. The FRYMAX RC-300 fryer is a solid workhorse for fish and chip shops or cafes, while the open display fridge with multiple shelves suits a front-of-house setup. Don’t overlook the Tetlow kilns and furnaces unit — that’s specialist gear for potters or small-scale ceramic production, not something you see in every hospitality auction.
The rest of the lots cover basics: white square dinner plates, assorted kitchen utensils with white metal tools, industrial store shelving, and a bulk lot of commercial shelving. If you’re kitting out a new venue or just need backup storage and tableware, this is a chance to grab the lot without the retail mark-up. Seven lots total, all closing on July 14, 2026.
