FAQ
What typically comes up in industrial auctions?
Manufacturing plant and machinery, lathes, presses, mills, compressors, warehouse racking and shelving, commercial fitouts, and the full contents of factories and workshops when they close.
How do I find industrial auctions in my state?
The listings below are organised by state. The major houses such as Slattery, Lloyds, and Grays, all run regular industrial sales nationally. Local clearance and liquidation houses also contribute significant volume in each state.
Is industrial equipment sold with any compliance certification?
Rarely. Most equipment is sold as-is with no certification. If you intend to use machinery commercially, you’ll need to arrange an independent compliance inspection before commissioning it in a workplace.
What should I check before bidding on industrial equipment?
Age, condition, operating hours where applicable, power requirements, and whether the equipment is complete (tooling, dies, and accessories often go missing).
Trends & Insights
National auction clearance rates held steady at 52.2% for the week ending May 23, a figure that masks deep divergence across capital cities with Sydney posting a robust 64.2% clearance while Brisbane slumped to just 20.1% (Property Update, May 23). The first post-budget auction round saw Sydney clearance drop to a six-year low of 49.2%, with investor-heavy segments taking the brunt of the pullback while owner-occupier markets proved more resilient (CommBank Newsroom, May 19). For industrial players, the residential signal is a useful barometer: caution is concentrated in discretionary capital, not in core operational demand.
The industrial market itself is turning a corner with demand improving and vacancy tightening for the first time in nearly two years, as pricing stabilises and investment momentum rebuilds into 2026 (Savills Australia, May 26). That view is reinforced by the latest capital markets outlook, which identifies approximately $38 billion in capital targeting Australian logistics, with a focus on income-secure assets as debt market volatility eases and improved deployment is expected this year (Cushman & Wakefield, May 26). Liquidity is returning, but it remains selective, concentrated on core logistics assets rather than speculative plays.
On the equipment side, Euro Auctions will hold a major National sale in Brisbane on May 28-29, offering over 600 lots of heavy machinery and industrial equipment across construction, mining and logistics sectors (Euro Auctions, May 26). That volume signals ongoing end-user demand for productive assets, even as broader capital markets remain cautious. Buyers should watch the Brisbane equipment clearance rate next week as a real-time read on industrial confidence.

Rod’s Tips
Factory closure sales are where the genuine bargains are. When a complete factory disposes, everything goes, from the machinery to the brooms. Lot quality is high and pricing is motivated.
Warehouse racking is perennially undervalued at auction. New Dexion or Colby racking is expensive. Second-hand racking at auction, even accounting for transport and re-erection, is typically 30–60% cheaper. Check beam and upright condition carefully for damage and missing pins.
Bring a measuring tape and the equipment specs you need to match. Industrial auction listings are often vague on dimensions. If you’re buying to fill a specific space or process requirement, measure at the preview and don’t rely on catalogue descriptions.
Power requirements matter. Three-phase industrial equipment is common at auction. Confirm your site has the correct supply before bidding on anything that needs it.
