FAQ
What is a repairable write-off?
A vehicle written off by an insurer because repair costs exceed a threshold relative to value, but where the vehicle is structurally sound and repairable. In most states these can be re-registered after an inspection by an approved assessor. More here.
What is a statutory write-off?
A vehicle with structural or safety damage so severe that it cannot be re-registered for road use in any state. These can only be sold for parts or crushing. Know which type you’re bidding on before proceeding. More here
Can I re-register a repairable write-off?
Yes, but the process and cost varies by state. NSW, VIC, and QLD all have specific WOVR (Written-Off Vehicle Register) rules. Check your state’s transport authority requirements before bidding on any write-off. More here
What’s the typical discount on a repairable write-off?
Commonly 30–50% below the equivalent clean-title vehicle, depending on damage type and extent. Hail damage write-offs with no structural impact often represent the best value.
Trends & Insights
Repairable write-off supply remains the defining story of the Australian salvage market this week, with both major platforms pushing substantial volume through the channel. Manheim’s ongoing REP039 catalogue alone lists 453 lots of damaged vehicles including utes, SUVs and commercials, supported by additional Perth Damage and Premium Damage sales scheduled nationally (Manheim.com.au, Aug 23). Auction Finder’s tracking of recent Manheim and Pickles Melbourne salvage events confirms the trend, reporting 344 to 499 lots per sale with heavy representation of tradie vehicles and family SUVs (Auctionfinder.com.au, Aug 18). That is not surplus stock, that is the new normal for insurance total loss flows.
Pickles is matching that tempo with a cluster of state and national salvage auctions closing out the week. NT Online Salvage, VIC/TAS Online Salvage and National Heavy Motor Salvage sales are all open for bidding across Australia, covering damaged cars, equipment and heavy vehicles (Pickles.com.au, Aug 23). For buyers chasing prestige repairable stock, Manheim’s National Prestige Auction on August 20 ran as a simulcast from 2pm AEST, mixing higher-end vehicles with salvage and write-off lots in the same catalogue (Manheim Auctions Australia Facebook, Aug 20). That crossover format is worth watching, it signals where premium damaged stock is being directed.
On the digital side, IAA Australia shipped a fresh app update in mid-August, version 2026.08.14, with enhancements aimed squarely at the bidding experience for lightly damaged and salvaged vehicles (Apple App Store, Aug 14). The platform is clearly investing in its Australian interface as it builds post-Suncorp momentum. Buyers should watch next week’s online salvage catalogues closely, particularly any late-added state-based sales from Pickles and Manheim’s premium damage events, as early-week listings often carry the freshest total loss stock.

Rod’s Tips
Hail damage write-offs are the sweet spot for value buyers. A vehicle written off for hail damage typically has full mechanical integrity. For the insurer, they simply can’t justify the panel repair cost. A paintless dent repair specialist can often fix hail damage for a fraction of the write-off discount.
The Factory Warranty question with near new vehicles You have to ask the manufacturer. Usually it’s no but in cases such as hail damage where some states do not apply a written-off status, there is a chance. Usually, auctioneers will make it known if warrantly still applies.
Always pull the WOVR record before bidding on any write-off. The NEVDIS or your state’s transport authority database shows the recorded damage type. A mismatch between what you’re told and what the register shows is a red flag.
Pickles and Manheim handle the highest volume of salvage vehicles in Australia. Their insurance partner programs produce consistent supply which is useful for benchmarking what write-offs are genuinely selling for.
Get repair quotes before you bid, not after. Call two or three repairers with the damage description and photos. Build re-registration costs into your ceiling as well as they vary significantly by state.

National Online Salvage Construction, Earthmoving & Agricultural Equipment
More detail
The pick of the lot is likely the Volvo L60F, a proper mid-sized wheel loader that usually holds its value well if the salvage damage is cosmetic. The Dressta TD-20M is a serious bit of iron for anyone needing a full-size dozer, while the three Kobelco SK80-series excavators offer options for buyers chasing a compact unit with decent reach. If you need something smaller, the 2014 Kalmar DCF 410CSG container forklift and the 2023 Hyundai 25LE-7 are both listed, covering heavy industrial and warehouse duties.
Salvage titles mean you need to do your homework on why each unit is here. Some gear may have been written off for minor panel damage, while others could have mechanical or structural issues. The 2014 Rover Z-Force LZ48 mower and the Toyota Huski 30-5SDK8 are worth a look for lighter jobs, but factor in inspection time and potential repair costs before you bid. With 12 lots spread across various national locations, check the specific pickup point for each item, as freight could add up quickly if you’re buying multiple pieces.

VIC/TAS Online Salvage
Includes: 2014 Kia Cerato S Premium, 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C200, 2007 Nissan ELGRAND, 2012 Holden Cruze CD

fastSalvage eBid Auction
More detail
Autorola’s fastSalvage eBid auction is a targeted listing for buyers chasing a repair job or parts donor. It’s part of their steady stream of ex-fleet, statutory, abandoned, and dealer vehicles, so expect a clear condition report and salvage title rather than a showroom piece.
The single lot here is a salvage vehicle, which means the damage history and photos are your main tools. Check the listing carefully for the specific make, model, and damage category before bidding, as Autorola’s salvage stock ranges from minor panel hits to more serious structural issues. If you’re handy with a spanner or know a good panel beater, this could be a cheap way into a late-model car. Bidding closes 26 August, so get your inspection done early and bid to your limit, not past it.
-

fastSalvage 4×4, Vans & Light Commercials
More detail
Autorola Australia runs high-volume disposals of ex-fleet, statutory, abandoned, and dealer vehicles right across the country. This particular sale is a one-lot affair, so it’s not a yard full of choices, it’s a targeted pick for someone chasing a specific 4×4, van, or light commercial with salvage or fleet history.
Buyers should focus on the condition report and any photos before bidding, as statutory and abandoned stock often comes with unknowns around mechanicals and paperwork. If the lot is ex-fleet, service history may be patchy but the vehicle’s likely been maintained to a corporate standard. Autorola’s platform usually provides clear listing details, so scroll through the images and read the fine print on registration and roadworthiness before you commit.

fastSalvage Lux – European & Specialty Vehicles
Autorola Australia lists ex-fleet, statutory, abandoned, and dealer vehicle auctions across Australia, specialising in high-volume car and light commercial disposals.

NT Online Salvage
More detail
This NT Online Salvage sale is a solid spread of late-model family SUVs and workhorse utes, with a few left-field options for the project crowd. The 2023 Mazda 3 and 2024 Haval H6 Ultra are the pick of the newer stock if you’re chasing a warranty-style rebuild, while the 2019 Landcruiser Workmate and 2016 Hilux are the usual suspects for parts or a straight fix-up. Petrol heads will clock the 2013 Toyota 86 GT, a car that usually sells on its chassis, not its condition, so check the damage report carefully.
Pickles is running this one from Winnellie, with the lot closing out on 24 August 2026. The 10 vehicles cover everything from the 2009 Triton and 2014 Suzuki SX4 to the 2016 Fortuner and 2008 Colt, so there’s something for every budget. Given the salvage tag, don’t expect a test drive. Factor in the Northern Territory location for transport costs and get your inspections done before bidding opens.

Electrical Contractor Supplies, Hardware, PPE & Workshop Online WA Salvage Auction
More detail
Ross is putting up a salvage-style auction from WA Salvage Liquidations on Sevenoaks Street, covering the messy end of an electrical contracting job. Don’t expect polished, tested gear here, this is a dig-through-the-bins affair. The 12-plus lots are mostly bundles, so you’re buying in bulk, not cherry-picking singles.
The standout lots for a sparkie or a workshop hoarder are the Weidmuller combi check (untested, but worth a punt at salvage prices), the bundle of 440V switches, and the circuit breakers. If you’re after rigging gear, there’s a bundle of 1T round slings at 1m, plus a few coils of rope. Two 4.80/4.00-8 tyres are also in the mix, handy for a trailer or trolley.
A word to the wise: untested means untested. Factor in replacement costs if something’s dead, and don’t bid blind on the extension leads or plugs unless you’re happy to scrap them for parts. The auction closes 25 August, so get your bids in before then. Ross runs these regularly from Perth, often with police forfeitures and business closures mixed in, so if this one’s not your lot, the next one will be along shortly.

Bullbars & Automotive Accessories Online WA Salvage Auction
More detail
These aren’t your average shed finds. The 750mm tapered design is made to sit snug against the tray sides, and the matte black aluminium finish suits a modern workhorse or a weekend 4WD. With a dozen pairs listed, this is a solid chance to kit out a fleet, or pick up spares for a job that chews through gear.
Ross runs a steady program of online, live, and in-house auctions from Perth, and this one pulls from the usual mix of WA Police forfeitures, business closures, and general machinery clearouts. That means condition can vary, so factor in a close look at the photos or a call to the yard before bidding. The auction closes 25 August, so there’s time to sort out freight or pickup from Cannington.
-

Unassembled Slotted Angled Shelving Online WA Salvage Auction
More detail
If you run a warehouse, shed, or retail store, this is a straight-up chance to stock a full racking system without paying retail. Every lot is identical, so you can buy one to test the water or grab a handful to build out a decent storage wall. The 3635mm uprights give you real height, while the 1195mm and 610mm cross braces let you configure the bays to suit your gear.
The chipboard shelves are 16mm thick, so they’ll handle general boxes and stock, but don’t expect them to carry engine blocks. All hardware is included, which saves you a trip to the fastener shop. Being unassembled, they’ll fit in a ute or trailer, but check your load space against those long 3.6m angles before you bid.
ross runs these salvage and clearance auctions regularly out of Cannington, often pulling stock from business closures and police forfeitures. This one closes on 25 August, and with 12 lots on offer, you can pick up multiple units in a single sale. Factor in the pickup logistics from Sevenoaks Street, and it’s a solid option for anyone needing cheap, sturdy shelving in bulk.
-

Eco-Chlor Chlorine Bactericide, Heavy Duty Drain Cleaner & Paper Online WA Salvage Auction
More detail
This is a straight-up consumables auction for anyone who runs a cleaning business, manages a facility, or just likes buying bulk supplies at salvage prices. The standout lots are the Clean Easy heavy-duty drain cleaner, boxed in 1L bottles with 20 per lot, and there’s multiple lots of it, so you can stack your bid across several boxes without paying retail. The Eco-Chlor chlorine bactericide is the other one worth a look, especially if you’re dealing with water treatment, food prep areas, or commercial hygiene.
Ross runs these WA salvage sales regularly out of Cannington, pulling together forfeited goods, business closures, and surplus stock. This one’s a paper-based online auction, so you’re bidding from your phone or computer, and pickup will be from the Sevenoaks Street yard. With 12 lots listed and all of them consumables, it’s a tidy little auction for topping up your chemical cupboard without the usual supplier markup. Check the lot photos and condition notes before you bid, then get in before the close on 25 August 2026.
-

Coca-Cola Collectables & Carnival Glassware Online WA Salvage Auction
More detail
Ross at WA Salvage Liquidations in Cannington is putting up a tidy collection of Coke memorabilia that spans decades. The standout is the limited-edition Coca-Cola car, complete with box and certificate, numbered 479 out of 500. Also worth a look are the Franklin Heirloom dolls, including Megan with her wooden wagon and teddy, still with original posters and boxes.
The framed mirrors are a consistent thread through the lot list, with one featuring a clock. There are also assorted trays, four Coca-Cola glasses bundled with a Gund camel plush, and three Santa plates. If you’re after a quick collectable fix, the individual glasses and trays offer a low-cost entry point.
Ross runs these online salvage auctions regularly from Perth, pulling together police forfeited goods, business closures, and odd lots. This one is purely collectables, so expect interest from Coke fans and carnival glass buffs alike. Bidding closes 25 August, and with only a dozen or so lots, it won’t take long to work through.

Sale #4101 – Light Vehicles, Trailers, Salvage & More
More detail
This is a solid, no-frills disposal sale out of Midland, perfect if you’re chasing a runabout, a trailer for the weekend, or a wreck to part out. The salvage side of things is worth a look if you’ve got the time to strip them, and the light vehicle entries are the usual mix of trade-ins and repo stock that sbauction cycles through on a regular basis.
Check the lot list closely for anything with a clean title, and don’t be afraid to bid on the damaged stuff if you know your way around a panel beater. Trailers tend to go cheap here, especially the older box trailers and tippers, so bring your ute and a winch if you’re serious. The unreserved format means the opening bids are low, but the regulars know the drill, so have your top price in mind before the close date hits on 10 September.
-

Sale #4100 – Salvage Trucks & Light Vehicles.
More detail
This is a proper clearance of damaged and end-of-life commercial gear. The Isuzu NPR with the tray body is a common site truck, ideal for a panel beater or parts recycler. The Fuso Canter is a workhorse that often gets written off for minor panel damage. The HiAce is a solid candidate for a van conversion or courier rebuild if the structural bits are straight.
Beyond the trucks, expect a mix of passenger cars and 4x4s, plus whatever industrial equipment sbauction has collected. The unreserved format means no reserve price holding things back. First in with the highest bid takes it. Check the photos carefully for damage reports and don’t assume anything is driveable. The sale closes 1 July, so get your inspection done early.
-

Sale #4093 – Light Vehicles, Trailers, Salvage & More
More detail
This is a straight-up unreserved sale, so prices should reflect the condition of each lot rather than any reserve floor. The vehicle list includes a mix of daily drivers and project cars, with several Japanese 4×4 utes and vans that could suit a tradie or a weekend off-roader. The salvage section is worth a look if you have the skills to repair or the contacts to part out. Trailers range from small box trailers to heavier plant haulers, which often get overlooked in general auctions.
Buyers should factor in Midland location for pickup logistics. Inspection is recommended, especially for the salvage lots where damage can be hidden. No buyer’s premium has been flagged, but confirm with sbauction before bidding. The close date is 23 July 2026, so there’s time to register and run the rego checks.

Adelaide & Rural Salvage Part 2
More detail
This is the second part of a cleanout from a Kilkenny SA operator who has been running commercial and deceased estate sales since 1980. The focus here is on vehicles that have been in accidents, so expect structural and panel damage on most lots. The Isuzu D-Max and the HiLux SR5 are both 4x4s, making them popular choices for repairers or parts strippers.
A few non-vehicle items are mixed in, including a 2002 aluminium box trailer and a 2019 Carry-On 6×4 trailer. If you are chasing a donor cab or drivetrain, these write-offs could stack up well against a straight retail buy. Check the damage photos closely before bidding closes on 25 August 2026.

Sheriff’s Office of Victoria eBid Auction
More detail
Autorola’s Sheriff’s Office of Victoria eBid Auction is a straight-down-the-line disposal of vehicles that have ended up in official hands, whether through court orders, abandonment, or police seizures. The six lots lean towards the practical end of the market: think late-model fleet cars with solid service history, plus a few salvage-title units where the damage is the main talking point. If you’ve got a workshop or a paddock and know your way around a panel beater, this is the kind of catalogue where the value sits in the work you’re willing to put in.
The standout angle here is the mix. Some lots will be registered and roadworthy candidates, ideal for a cheap daily or a runabout, while others are clearly sold as-is, with the kind of front-end or rear-end knocks that make insurers write them off but leave plenty of good parts. Autorola runs these sales with a no-nonsense format, so check the condition reports carefully and factor in pickup costs from VIC. With only six lots, the catalogue is tight, but that also means less competition if you’re after a specific model. Get your inspection done early, know your limit, and don’t assume every car is a bargain just because it’s a sheriff’s sale.
