FAQ
What is a repairable write-off?
A vehicle written off by an insurer because repair costs exceed a threshold relative to value, but where the vehicle is structurally sound and repairable. In most states these can be re-registered after an inspection by an approved assessor. More here.
What is a statutory write-off?
A vehicle with structural or safety damage so severe that it cannot be re-registered for road use in any state. These can only be sold for parts or crushing. Know which type you’re bidding on before proceeding. More here
Can I re-register a repairable write-off?
Yes, but the process and cost varies by state. NSW, VIC, and QLD all have specific WOVR (Written-Off Vehicle Register) rules. Check your state’s transport authority requirements before bidding on any write-off. More here
What’s the typical discount on a repairable write-off?
Commonly 30–50% below the equivalent clean-title vehicle, depending on damage type and extent. Hail damage write-offs with no structural impact often represent the best value.
Trends & Insights
Pickles is leading the charge this week with two major salvage sales bookending the country. Their Perth Salvage Vehicles Auction on Monday 13 July features a strong lineup of late model utes and family vehicles, including the 2025 Toyota Tundra, 2025 Mitsubishi Triton and 2025 Mazda CX-5 (Pickles Auctions, Jul 11). Hot on its heels, the NSW/ACT Salvage Vehicles Auction kicks off Tuesday 14 July with a high octane lineup of salvage vehicles (Pickles Auctions, Jul 11). This follows similar Melbourne and QLD sales earlier in the week, confirming a sustained push from the auction house to move volume across every major market.
Manheim is running a Perth Damage online simulcast auction featuring 48 lots of salvage and repairable write offs (Manheim Australia, Jul 6). This is just one component of a broader nationwide push, with Manheim currently listing 46 lots of VIC Statutory write offs and a massive 483 lots of national repairable write offs (Manheim Australia, Jul 10). These volumes reflect sustained insurance salvage flows and steady repairer demand for repairable stock.
Slattery Auctions is targeting a different segment of the market with its Brisbane Salvage Semi Trailer Sale, featuring salvage semi trailers and related equipment at their Pinkenba site (Slattery Auctions, Jul 11). This sale highlights that salvage opportunities are not limited to passenger vehicles, with heavy commercial assets drawing specialist buyers. Buyers should watch for competitive bidding on the late model utes in the Pickles Perth sale and monitor the closing times on the Slattery equipment lots.

Rod’s Tips
Hail damage write-offs are the sweet spot for value buyers. A vehicle written off for hail damage typically has full mechanical integrity. For the insurer, they simply can’t justify the panel repair cost. A paintless dent repair specialist can often fix hail damage for a fraction of the write-off discount.
The Factory Warranty question with near new vehicles You have to ask the manufacturer. Usually it’s no but in cases such as hail damage where some states do not apply a written-off status, there is a chance. Usually, auctioneers will make it known if warrantly still applies.
Always pull the WOVR record before bidding on any write-off. The NEVDIS or your state’s transport authority database shows the recorded damage type. A mismatch between what you’re told and what the register shows is a red flag.
Pickles and Manheim handle the highest volume of salvage vehicles in Australia. Their insurance partner programs produce consistent supply which is useful for benchmarking what write-offs are genuinely selling for.
Get repair quotes before you bid, not after. Call two or three repairers with the damage description and photos. Build re-registration costs into your ceiling as well as they vary significantly by state.

NT Online Salvage
More detail
This is a straight salvage sale, meaning every vehicle carries a damage history and will need a mechanical and cosmetic assessment before it is roadworthy again. The mix leans heavily toward modern utes and SUVs, which often hold their value well after a proper repair. The 2023 Hilux and the pair of Landcruiser Workmates (2010 and 2023) are the obvious standouts for anyone with panel-beating skills or a trade connection.
There is also a 2018 Ford Ranger XLT and a 2016 Ford Ranger in the mix, along with a 2016 Holden Trax and a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander for the budget end. The Subaru pair (2017 Outback 2.5i and 2015 XV) could appeal to buyers chasing a popular AWD platform. Bidding closes on July 13, so inspect the photos carefully and factor in transport from Darwin if you are not local.

fastSalvage eBid Auction
More detail
This is a tight two-lot auction for buyers chasing a project car or a cheap runabout with known damage. The Mitsubishi ASX is a petrol SUV with automatic transmission, while the Hyundai i30 is a petrol manual hatchback. Both are ex-fleet or statutory write-offs, meaning they have been assessed as repairable and can be re-registered after approved repairs.
Autorola runs these eBid sales regularly across Australia, so the process is straightforward: register, bid, and organise your own transport. The close date is 15 July 2026, giving you time to inspect the vehicle data or arrange a pre-bid check. If you have a repairer lined up, these are the kind of lots that can turn into a solid daily driver for a fraction of the used car lot price.
-

fastSalvage Fleet Only NON WOVR vehicles
More detail
This is a fleet-only offering, so the car likely comes with a solid service history and consistent use. Being non-WOVR is a key detail for anyone looking to repair and register a vehicle without the complications of a statutory write-off label.
The lot list is slim, but autorola’s speciality is high-volume disposals. If you are chasing a cheap daily driver or a project car from a known source, this one is worth a look. Check the auction page for the specific make, model, and condition notes before bidding.
-

fastSalvage 4×4, Vans & Light Commercials
More detail
Autorola is known for moving high volumes of ex-fleet and dealer stock, but this particular auction is a tight, single-lot offering. The salvage category means the vehicle may have damage, mechanical issues, or be a repairable write-off. Buyers should factor in potential compliance costs and inspection before bidding.
The close date is 15 July 2026, so there’s time to assess the listing details. If you’re after a project car or a cheap parts donor, this is the kind of sale where you can find a deal if you’re willing to do the legwork. Check the lot description for the specific make, model, and damage notes before jumping in.
-

National Online Salvage Caravans, Recreational & Marine
More detail
This auction covers a broad mix of salvage stock from multiple locations, so check the individual item descriptions for damage and pickup details. The 2022 Long Haul Trailers T-Rex T13 is a relatively new heavy-duty trailer that could be a solid project if the damage is cosmetic. The 2014 Olympic Pursuit Z6 and the 2008 Paramount Classic are both older caravans that might suit a buyer looking for a restoration or parts.
Marine buyers should note the Seafarer V-Sea and the Carribean 17ft Concord, both popular hulls for fishing or cruising. The 2011 Golf Caravans Challenger and the 2010 Retreat Hamilton round out the touring options. With 12-plus lots closing on 15 July 2026, inspect the photos and condition reports before bidding. No reserve prices are stated, so the final cost depends entirely on demand.

Various Location Salvage Honda Postie Bike Clearance
More detail
This clearance is a goldmine for anyone who knows their way around a Postie. Pickles is offering a wide selection of these iconic workhorses, and with salvage titles on many lots, the starting prices should be well below market. The range covers everything from running projects to parts-only shells.
The CT110 is a legend for a reason: simple, tough, and cheap to fix. If you need a farm hack, a courier bike, or a donor for a restoration, this is where you look. The salvage designation means you’ll likely be dealing with repairable write-offs, so factor in inspection time and any registration hurdles in your state.
Bidding closes on July 19, 2026. Check the lot photos carefully for damage and missing parts. These bikes sell fast when the price is right, so know your limit and stick to it.

fastSalvage Special Auction Brisbane Airport Abandoned Vehicles
More detail
This is a straight salvage play for anyone who can handle a bit of paperwork. The cars have been left behind at the airport, so expect them to be in unknown mechanical condition without keys or service history. Autorola is offering them as-is, where-is, with no opportunity to inspect before bidding.
The standout is the Caprice, which would have been a top-spec airport limo or taxi. The iLoad van could be a cheap parts donor or a project if the engine is still free. Also in the mix are a 2012 Ford Falcon and a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer, both common models with strong aftermarket support.
Buyers need to factor in tow fees and potential storage charges from the airport. Registration is almost certainly lapsed or cancelled. If you are after a cheap shell or a drivetrain donor for a late-model Commodore or Camry, this is worth a close look.

Salvage Faymonville 6R8 TeleMAX Extendable Blade Trailer
More detail
Pickles is clearing this single item from its Eagle Farm yard. The trailer is a 2023 Faymonville 6R8 TeleMAX Extendable Blade Trailer, a specialist unit designed to extend and retract for transporting wind turbine blades or long structural steel. It is listed as salvage, so expect it to have sustained some form of damage or insurance write-off.
For anyone in the heavy transport game, this is a niche piece of equipment. A new Faymonville of this spec costs a small fortune. If the frame and hydraulics are straight, there could be serious money to be made repairing and on-selling it. Check the images and inspection details carefully before bidding closes on 29 July 2026.
Western Australia
-

Perth Salvage Vehicles
More detail
This auction covers 12 lots of damaged and repairable vehicles at Pickles’ Bibra Lake site. The standout is the 2022 Nissan Patrol Ti, likely a high-value repair candidate. On the lighter end, a 2023 MG MG3 Core and a 2024 MG ZS Excite offer modern cars with potentially manageable damage.
Buyers should inspect before bidding. The 2005 Holden Statesman and the 2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i could suit someone chasing parts or a rebuild. The 2017 Nissan Navara ST and the 2015 Toyota Hilux SR are popular utes that might be worth a look if the damage is cosmetic. All vehicles are sold as-is, so factor in transport and repair costs. Closes 13 July 2026.

Sale #4093 – Light Vehicles, Trailers, Salvage & More
More detail
This is a straight-up unreserved sale, so prices should reflect the condition of each lot rather than any reserve floor. The vehicle list includes a mix of daily drivers and project cars, with several Japanese 4×4 utes and vans that could suit a tradie or a weekend off-roader. The salvage section is worth a look if you have the skills to repair or the contacts to part out. Trailers range from small box trailers to heavier plant haulers, which often get overlooked in general auctions.
Buyers should factor in Midland location for pickup logistics. Inspection is recommended, especially for the salvage lots where damage can be hidden. No buyer’s premium has been flagged, but confirm with sbauction before bidding. The close date is 23 July 2026, so there’s time to register and run the rego checks.
-

Sale #4100 – Salvage Trucks & Light Vehicles.
More detail
This is a proper clearance of damaged and end-of-life commercial gear. The Isuzu NPR with the tray body is a common site truck, ideal for a panel beater or parts recycler. The Fuso Canter is a workhorse that often gets written off for minor panel damage. The HiAce is a solid candidate for a van conversion or courier rebuild if the structural bits are straight.
Beyond the trucks, expect a mix of passenger cars and 4x4s, plus whatever industrial equipment sbauction has collected. The unreserved format means no reserve price holding things back. First in with the highest bid takes it. Check the photos carefully for damage reports and don’t assume anything is driveable. The sale closes 1 July, so get your inspection done early.
Victoria
-

Melbourne Salvage Vehicles
More detail
This salvage sale covers everything from late-model luxury to classic workhorses. The 2023 BMW X3 M40i and 2015 BMW 4 Series 428i are likely high-value repair projects, while the 2025 Ford Ranger XL and 2023 Toyota Landcruiser Workmate appeal to tradies needing a rebuild. Older entries like the 1985 Toyota Hilux and 2008 Ford Falcon could suit parts strippers or restoration enthusiasts.
Buyers should inspect the damage in person at the Tullamarine yard before bidding. The 12+ lots close on 16 July 2026, and each vehicle has a clear listing for its condition report. No registration details are guaranteed, so factor in tow and paperwork costs.

Adelaide Salvage Vehicles
More detail
The twelve-lot catalogue is heavy on recent models, which is unusual for a salvage sale. A 2024 Suzuki Swift Hybrid and a 2024 Toyota Hiace sit alongside the expected older utes like a 2011 Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R and a 2007 Holden Commodore Omega. Anyone chasing a project with modern parts should look at the 2021 Nissan Navara SL and the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
Location is Salisbury Plain. Buyers need to inspect before bidding, as damage descriptions are not included in the listing. Given the mix of late-model repairables and older write-offs, this one suits both panel beaters and part-out specialists.
-

Adelaide & Rural Salvage Part 1
More detail
MGS is putting up a mixed lot of repairable and salvage cars from their Kilkenny yard, part of a regular series that draws both tradies and private buyers. The Corolla and Hyundai are likely the pick for a cheap daily driver rebuild, while the Colorado and Triton offer potential for parts or a project ute. There’s also a 2000 Mazda Bravo Dual Cab 4×4 and a 2002 Ford Falcon AU XLS ute in the mix.
These are from a house that’s been running commercial and deceased estate sales since 1980, so condition varies. Check the photos for damage severity. The close date is 4 August 2026, giving you time to inspect. If you’ve got a panel beater on speed dial, this one’s worth a look.
