Auction: 1985 Holden Commodore SS HDT – Peter Brock’s Personal Company Car
Here’s a very rare and special car, and one that I have fond memories of with Peter Brock being a childhood hero as he was to so many. Brock was a legend that’s never been repeated in Australian history and likely never will be. This particular car currently at auction was his personal car, and one of the finest models that he produced (IMHO) although some may argue it was the VH SS.
This 1985 Holden Commodore (VK) SS HDT Group A is a highly sought-after homologation special performance saloon and a significant part of Australian motorsport history. Originally used as the personal company car of legendary racing driver Peter Brock, as certified by an HDT letter signed by his long-time teammate John Harvey.
The car is powered by a 4.9-liter A9L V8 engine producing 196kW, mated to an M21 four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It is one of only 500 examples produced and is accompanied by a large folder of supporting paperwork, invoices, period advertisements, and HDT literature.
Finished in Formula Blue with white Group A decals, the light blue interior retains its factory-fitted Scheel sports seats, Peter Brock-branded radio cassette player, and leather-trimmed Momo steering wheel. The car rides on the correct 16-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels and features Group 3 components such as Bilstein suspension, a race-bred front air dam, and a rear deck lid spoiler.
With 79,724 km on the odometer and recently serviced, this Holden Commodore (VK) SS HDT Group A is a rare and collectible homologation special, offering a significant piece of Australian automotive history with its initial use by the legendary Peter Brock.
The vehicle was last seen at auction where it sold for $1.057 million (plus auction fees of 7.5%) on 26 May 2021. They auctioneer at that time was Grays.
