About AuctionFinder Australia

AuctionFinder.com.au is an Australian-based website that curates and collates auction event notices from around Australia, helping people to easily find upcoming sales in their area, or for the specific item they’re seeking to buy. It also features helpful tips for buying at an auction.

The Australian Auction Finder site is all about helping people discover the fun, excitement, and satisfaction of buying at auction. We hope to share experiences, tips, and suggestions that lead people toward getting the deal they aim for, or maybe even the bargain they never imagined!

Moreover, the auction marketplace in Australia provides an important service facilitating the recycling and repurposing of used machinery and goods, which we believe has a positive effect on the environment, reducing demand on natural resources and reducing the load on landfills.

What We Do

Each week, AuctionFinder aggregates upcoming auctions from more than 100 Australian auction houses and organizes them by category and by state. Categories include vehicles, machinery, industrial equipment, antiques, classic cars, collectibles, and general goods. Instead of checking dozens of separate websites, users can see what’s coming up in one place or search across live listings using AuctionFinder’s dedicated auction search engine.

Currently, we curate auction listings, providing a regular post each week about major auctions taking place in each state, along with a post each week for major car, truck, campervan, motorcycle, and boat auctions.

AuctionFinder does not sell items, host auctions, or take commissions. It’s operated as a neutral discovery layer that benefits buyers by reducing search time, while giving auctioneers greater visibility among motivated buyers without competing with their listings.

The Problem We Solve

Across Australia, thousands of valuable auction items are sold every week, yet many buyers never see them. These opportunities are not hidden by design, they’re hidden by fragmentation. Valuable inventory often sits behind the digital walls of more than 100 individual auction house websites, requiring buyers to pogo-stick from site to site for hours just to see what is available.

Again and again, what I have personally found is that the biggest barrier has not been availability, but time. AuctionFinder addresses this by indexing live and recently published auction listings only from Australian auctioneers. Users can find events by state or genre of interest or by search. Search results are prioritised by freshness and relevance, helping buyers avoid outdated catalogues while uncovering genuine bargain opportunities.

Auction buying should not require hours of research just to find out what exists. By mapping the auction market as it actually operates, we make it easier for buyers to participate and for existing assets to find new owners.

— Rod L’Huillier, Founder

The History of AuctionFinder Australia — Online Since 2005

The idea for the website came from Rod L’Huillier, who lived by the motto “why buy new when used will do”, something inherited from growing up on the farm and attending Clearing Sales regularly, searching for used machinery that can be repurposed or brought back to life for part of the cost of new. A way of life every farmhand will know.

Later in life, Rod would visit local auctions for all types of goods, often buying bulk lots and recycling, then putting the good items back into the marketplace. It was also a great way to save on personal needs, saving big money on home needs, computer, camera, cars, and just about everything.

In 2005, growing tired of searching multiple websites and buying newspapers to find out about upcoming sales, Rod started AuctionFinder. At that time, it was a simple website providing an index of auction houses in each capital city and state, something it still does today.

In recent years, functionality grew to include regular posts each week with upcoming auctions taking place in each state, along with a post each week for major car, truck, campervan, motorcycle, and boat auctions. Another popular feature of the site is the Auction Search Engine, which allows users to search auction sites across Australia for the item they seek.

About the Founder — Rod L’Huillier

Rod L’Huillier is the developer of AuctionFinder, with over 30 years experience in the auto trade working with Ford Motor Company, and later in I.T. He is a motor mechanic by trade who greatly enjoys restoring the value in used items and returning them to service.

He did this for several years, purchasing used cars from Pickles and Manheim auctions, in both Melbourne and Brisbane, carrying out repairs, and finding new homes for them. In his mid-years, he studied Computer Science at the RMIT, and dabbled in buying bulk lots of computers at auction and sending them out to new homes via local marketplaces.

This hands-on experience in both the automotive trade and the auction marketplace gave Rod unique insight into the challenges buyers face when trying to find quality second-hand goods and equipment. That practical knowledge forms the foundation of AuctionFinder’s user-focused approach.
